Arts Trail Weekend Exhibitors

Beth Gibbings – My work is based on ideas of the land – not just what we live on and what is around us, but also what’s underneath – the history, the trauma, the experiences. I hand make in porcelain or porcelain paperclay, then decorate with slips and inks.

Clare Danby – I love hearing tales of how my pots are part of people’s everyday lives and the new friendships that pot connections kindle. These stories inspire my main focus on functional pieces. Recently, I have been focusing on wood firing and creating surface textures using gritty slips and big brushes. Instagram: @clay.danby

Rachael Naylor – The textures and forms of my ceramic works are a reflection of the inspiring forest that surrounds me.
Robyn Brain – I am a visual artist who loves anything quirky. In the past, I exhibited my paintings but now I combine my ceramics and paintings equally.
Saskia Klop -I’ve always been a collector of things. Seashells, driftwood, pieces of seaweed, feathers and stones of all shapes, colors and sizes that I find on my many walks. Recently I have been inspired to create pieces that incorporate these everyday treasures, displaying them in fun and interesting ways that show off their simple beauty. I have been experimenting with more organic surface textures of sand and slip and the occasional pop of color that seem to compliment these little displays and not compete with the beauty of the natural object.

Sean Slavin – I am a Bellingen based potter who makes both functional ware and sculptural pieces taking inspiration from natural landscapes. Instagram: @sean_slavin
Susan Romyn – My work is based in journeys with a sprinkling of quirk. My practice is both meditative and happy.
Helen Aiken – My work in ceramics now spans 30 years, in that time I have crafted a continually evolving path in the creation of ceramic sculptural works. The photo shows Forgotten Industrial Echoes, which delves into the remnants of an industrial era that once thrived with vigour but is now abandoned. Through the medium of ceramics, I explore the movement from the purposeful to the useless and forgotten, crafting pieces that evoke the rusty, wasted resources and detritus left behind by a bygone age.

Tamasin Pepper – My sculptural vessels explore the ancient quality of landscape, forms and patterns repeating. The stark Australian sunlight, shimmering white on water or eucalypt bark, appears in the use of porcelain casting slip, polished smooth against the dry, bright engobe. This technique of porcelain slip laminated onto clay slabs, adds depth to the surface.
Cath Fogarty Ceramics – Cath’s work focuses on slip cast porcelain tableware, largely cups and bowls which take inspiration from ancient objects and organic patterns. Cath has been working in clay over many years and currently teaches the diploma of ceramics at Coffs Harbour TAFE.

Crystal Larsen – When doing my pottery, my desire is to express all the love, respect and admiration I feel towards nature in all its beauty and intelligence.
