Local sculptor Fiona McCauley spent a year at Thora General Store crafting a copper gateway – a portal that encourages transformation, both physical and spiritual, for visitors as they move through the outdoor space until the beautiful Bellinger River is revealed. Named Mallaami, ‘to the place of origin’ in Gumbaynggirr language, the gardens behind the Thora Store are being regenerated to offer a communal green zone for all to enjoy. The sculpture pays homage to the local stories of Old Man Dreaming, framing the Dorrigo escarpment with latticework based on the Fibonacci Golden Mean.
